A tough effort. Despite that, the citizens of Athienou, known for their creativity and hard work, never abandon the effort for development and prosperity.<\/p>\n<p>From July 1, 2024 we are experiencing historic events. The reform of Local Government in Cyprus is a fact. The new Municipality of Athienou, one of the 20 new municipalities of Cyprus, consisting of the two municipal quarters of Athienou and Avdellero, has begun its united operation. Away from political purposes and with the sole aim of developing and promoting projects and policies for the wealth of the entire Municipality of Athienou, we shall work united and claim what our new Municipality is entitled to.<\/p>\n<p>We promise everyone that this will be our goal and this will be our continuous and tireless effort. He is married to Chrysoula Tambliou and they have three children, Constantinos, Petros and Elena.<\/p>\n<p>He is a graduate of the Pancyprian Gymnasium of Nicosia. He obtained a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering in 1981 followed by a postgraduate degree in 1982, from the CITY COLLEGE OF THE CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK with specialization in \u201cconstruction works\u201d. He graduated with the highest distinction (general grade 3.86 from 4.00) with various awards, as the 2nd best student of the University in 1981 and continuously studying under scholarships he received because of his exceptional performance. While studying for the master\u2019s degree (1981-1982), he also successfully worked with the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (NYC MTA) as a Civil Engineer. In October 1982, he was employed by MEDCON in Cyprus as the lead engineer of the earthworks division of the company for the construction of the Nicosia \u2013 Limassol highway and the Kalavasos Dam. From 1983 to December 2016, he worked in the District Administration of Larnaca as \u201cHead of Technical Services\u201d of the Central Service for Larnaca Community Councils.<\/p>\n<p>He has developed intense professional activity and he is appreciated for his work and his honesty by all Local Authorities of Larnaca. He has vast experience in planning, approving, tendering and executing development and other projects and raising European and other funds.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1998 he was involved in European projects through the Union of Communities of Larnaca. From 15\/06\/2004 until the end of 2005, with the approval of the District Officer of Larnaca, he was assigned as the temporary Director of the Larnaca District Development Agency, with intense activity.<\/p>\n<p>He participated in the efforts to set up the Association of Women of Rural Larnaca and helped to approve the Larnaca District Development Agency as a Local Action Group (in relation to the LEADER program) and to realize its participation in many European Competitive Programs, that brought added value across the district.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n<style type=\"text\/css\" data-created_by=\"avia_inline_auto\" id=\"style-css-av-1aashk-2-08bcdd1badafb9185f1a6cdd402e5e23\">\n.flex_column.av-1aashk-2-08bcdd1badafb9185f1a6cdd402e5e23{\nborder-radius:0px 0px 0px 0px;\npadding:0px 0px 0px 0px;\n}\n<\/style>\n<div  class='flex_column av-1aashk-2-08bcdd1badafb9185f1a6cdd402e5e23 av_one_half  avia-builder-el-15  el_after_av_one_half  avia-builder-el-last  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding  '     ><section  class='av_textblock_section av-m0iy6-1-54e0b1c228746b78974159c42eff79cd '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>He has very good relationships and has many partners in European Organizations, Development Agencies and Municipalities throughout Europe and has participated in many meetings, conferences and workshops in European and Mediterranean countries.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2017 he is the Mayor of Athienou, making the Municipality as an example for other local authorities to follow and he has contributed to Athienou progress in many aspects. In 2017 he was elected as a vice-president of the Larnaca \u2013 Famagusta Districts Development Agency, while in 2022 he was unanimously elected as its President. In 2024, he was unanimously re-elected President for a new term until 2029. At the same time, he actively participates in the Board of Directors of the Exploitation and Management of the Koshi Landfill, promoting decisions for the proper waste management of the district, but also of the Municipality of Athienou.<\/p>\n<p>He is very zealous in promoting the resolution of problems related to the occupation of a large part of the Municipality by Turkish troops, and he has been unanimously elected as President of the Committee of Border and Semi-Occupied Municipalities of the Union of Municipalities of Cyprus.<\/p>\n<p>Being the Mayor of Athienou he has developed a lot of actions at European level, with Athienou being approved as a Good Practice City for Volunteerism and being participant in many European projects as a lead partner or as a simple partner. He strengthened volunteerism, cultivated voluntary consciousness and encouraged the active participation of the citizens in European meetings and actions, promoting Athienou.
