Coop Square
The square was constructed in the center of the traditional core of the municipality close to the ‘‘Koumbinou’’ square. Degradation of ‘‘Koumbinou’’ square due to moving the center of the municipality to the south, around the churches’ square, created difficulties in connecting the southern and northern part of Athienou.
The aim of constructing the new square was to link the southern and northern parts of Athienou and to replace ‘Koumbinou’’ square.
A lodge was constructed on the western edge of the square and the floor was extended to the east and towards the ‘‘Koumbinou’’ square with the purpose of their spatial connection.
For the success of this undertaking specific functions needed to be present for the daily and periodical support of the square.
The setup of the square directly reflects the above functions. The space beneath the lodge is used as a stage for various events.
Undoubtedly, the area of the coop square needs maintenance and upgrade. The issue is under the consideration of the municipal council.
